Gentle Rein Therapies offers a traditional approach to clinic based Psychotherapy, Hypnotherapy and Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy with horses and ponies as co-facilitators to the sessions.
Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy & Equine Facilitated Learning are experiential forms of therapy that include horses and ponies as co-facilitators. The horses and ponies at Gentle Rein Therapies offer a powerful way of creating positive change. Rather than working with words only, you are able to experience behavioural and cognitive solutions, which can be applied outside of the therapy setting.
During your first meeting with Janine, an initial assessment and exploration of your individual needs, feelings and experiences will be carried out. The most suitable therapy for you at that time will be identified, and a treatment plan will be established and agreed upon.
We are based in Pearcedale, Victoria and service Mt Eliza and areas in the Mornington Peninsula.

Registered Psychologist • Clinical Hypnosis Therapist • Certified Neuropsychotherapist • Certified Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy & Learning Instructor
Janine has grown up in a family of humans and horses. She recalls an early childhood of going outside on her family’s property to be with the horses, and following the separation of her parents at age 9, she realised that it was her family’s horses that offered her the unconditional love and support she needed during that difficult time.
During her adolescent years Janine again sought solace with her horses. So when she accidentally came across a documentary on equine assisted therapies in 2008, she knew it was the therapy she needed to add to her private practice.
As a registered psychologist who works in private-practice at Gentle Rein Therapies, specialising in Equine Facilitated Neuropsychotherapy, her study of neuropsychotherapy has inspired her to integrate psychotherapy, neuroscience and experiential equine facilitated psychotherapy.
In addition to a traditional approach to psychotherapy within an office environment, Janine incorporates the principles of neuroscience, cognitive behavioural therapy and experiential therapy
Janine has extensive experience working with children, adolescents and adults. She has worked in private practice since 2001, in Victoria and New South Wales and she has also worked in a number of Victorian schools.
Janine is a Registered Psychologist, Clinical Hypnosis Therapist, a certified Neuropsychotherapist, and a Certified Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy & Learning Instructor (Epona, USA, EAGALA, USA). She has studied all over the world including Monash University in Melbourne, University of Illinois, USA, New Zealand and is a graduate of the Cairnmillar Institute Clinical Internship (Melbourne, Vic).
